A telegram from Taiyuanfu (capital of Shansi) states that the Peking troops are now con- centrating at Shihchiachwang (on the Peking-Hankow Rail- way). At first the Peking troops intended to attack the Shansi (Nationalist) army with full force, but after ascertaining that the Shansi troops were in strong positions, General Chang Hsueh- lang and General Yang Yu-ting (of the Peking Army) decided to wait ten days after their arri- val at Shihchiachwang.-"Wah Keung Po."

On coming to the surface the trap door is opened and the folded nero- plane is raised to the deck level where it is assembled in less than three minutes. It is lowered over the side by a derrick, and takes off on a reconnaissance trip after a short run on the surface of the water.

From the air the pilot reports by wireless as to type, number and location of any vesscle sighted. His observations completed, the pilot. lights beside the submarine and the aeroplane is quickly dis- mantled and slipped back into its compartment through the trap door. The course of action next pursued by the commander of the submarine is based on the report of the' pilot of the aeroplanc.

In half an hour flight at the height of five thousand feet, the pilot with the aid of his binoculars has been able to make a fairly com- prehensive report as to the location and type of all shipping over an area of 1,000 square miles. At the same time owing to the transpar ency of water when viewed from a height, he has been able to detect the presence of other submarines in the neighbourhood of his own craft, unless they are lying at too great a depth.-United Press.
