A. THIRD GO?
TUNNEY WILLING TO MEET DEMPSEY.
PROMOTER INTERESTED.
Chicago, Sept. 24. Promoter Tex Rickard has shown signs of enthusiasm over a possible third Tunney-Dempsey fight, and Tunney has indicated a willingness to meet him any time the public thinks the ex-champion is a match
for him.
"Why shouldn't I fight Dempsey
Tunney queried. again?" could beat him every day in the
week."
Jack Replies,
To which Jack replied, "I still think I can whip him. I am willing to meet him again."
[By "Shert Head."] No great space need, be taken up
Rickard said that he would pro- with comments on the third inter-mote another match if Dempsey port trial' match at Happy Valley would go over the same route of
first fighting some outstanding con on Saturday afternoon. As a dia-
tenders. play of lawn bowls it was far be- low the standard of a League match. The curious thing is that the Press reports disagree, .one scribe asserting that the two. No. I's played well enough to be chosen to play again and, that there was little to choose between Cullen and Holland as No. 3. It has even been; asked round the Clubs whether this and the other scribes actually saw the match. I can vouch that both "Jack" and "Short Head" did! And so must have "R. Bias" to have gone into details of the game the the way he did. Why, then, do scribes so openly disagree, ask the critics of the critics. That query Is beyond me. I am only concern- ed with my only little job. And 1 must adhere to what I stated in this paper on Monday that the No. 1's were again disappointing; that the No. 2's played below their previous form in the trials; that Cullen out- classed Holland; and that Wallace towered above Pendered as skip.
Here is how the players figured: Atkinson (No. 1-Touchers, 3; drew shot, 8 short, 22; heavy, 5; wide or narrow (not in count), 4.
Laing (No. 1)-Toucher, 1; drew shot, B; short, 18; heavy, 11; wide or narrow (not 'in count), 3; wood- ed 2.
Basa (No. 2)-Toucher, 1; drew shot, 4: trailed jack and lay, 1; short, 22; heavy. 9; wooded, 5; narrow and wide (not in count), 2. Smith (No. 2)-Drew shot; 4; trailed jack and iny, 2; short, 17; heavy, 10; wooded, 4: narrow wide (not in count), 7.
от
Cullen (No. 3)-Drew shot, 9; saved one shot or took out opponent, 4; short. 7; heavy, 11; wide narrow (not in count), 7; wooded, 6.
or
Holland (No. 3)-Drew shot, 5; trailed jack and lay, 1; toucher, 1; saved or took out opponent, 2; short, 17; heavy, 14; wooded, 4.
Barry Talks.
THE CHINA MAIL
Referee Dave Barry, in a state- ment on the disputed count, de- clared that Dempsey had no cause to complain. Tunney was down more than 10 seconds," he said, "but that was Dempsey's fault. He neglected to go to his corner when he registered the knockdown. He understood that he was to do that. The commissioner instructed me, and the fighters agreed to abide by the ruling when instructed just be. fore the fight started.
"Jack was guilty of striking low several times unintentionally and without bad effect on Tunney, but the rule we gave against unsports- man-like conduct counted a bit against him.

"It was a great fight, and I am sure the decision was 'corrert." told newspapermen that 18 seconds elapsed, but that four passed be- fore Dempsey get to his corner.

Receipts of the Tunney-Dempsey fight reached the record-breaking total of $2,658,060, Tex Rickard
announced.
The gate was more than $760,000 larger than that of the first Tun- ney-Dempsey fight a your ago. Ne- ceipts then totalled $1,895,723.

This amply confirms my verdict of the play recorded in Monday'a issue that the display was very poor indeed. Likewise It confirms my summing-up of the display of individual players.
