RUSSIAN DIES IN MENTAL WARD.

Shanghai, July' 22. An inquest was conducted yester- day at the Publie Mortuary, by Judge Chao and Mr. A. Stevenson, the Senior Consul's deputy on the body of Sergius Garnett,

ployee in the Health Department of the Shanghai Municipal Council, who hanged himself by a cord at- inched to the iron bars outside the) window of the room occupied by the deceased at the mental ward off the Victoria Nursing Home,

Evidence was given by Det.-In- spector Schmidt who said that de- reused who was 36 years of age was} found hanging by Mr. B. Stone an attendant at the Nursing Home. The body was immediately cut down and Dr. Bary was called but life was pronounced to be extinct. De- ceased had been a patient in the "mental ward since July 7.

7. The prize of $50 must be won and will be awarded for an al correct or nearest correct solution. In the event of ties the $50 will be divided. No competitor may win more than one share of the prize in each competition.

8. The coupon must not be defaced in any way. All attempts

must be in plain block letters and legible.

9. The Editor's decision will be final and binding in all matters of dispute, and he reserves the right to enter into Correspondence regarding the Competition.

10. Solutions vill be published with the results, in this paper, every
