WEST RIVER RISES.
FLOOD FEARED IN CANTON.
The West River has risen as a consequence of the recent rains, the level at Wuchow being 8 to 9 feet higher. The violent flow, ea- pecially below the Ling Yang Gorge, is found to be dangerous for native craft. Two native craft fully loaded with cargoes are re- portal by the "Canton Gazette" to have been sunk at this point of the | river. Tho yellow colour of the water in Canton harbour indicates that a flood is about to get in.
Hallstorm At Fungchun.
the The Fungchun district on upper West River experienced on the 1st inst. a heavy hailstorm. Following a thunderstorm, the fall lasted for nearly an hour, the hall- stones varying in size from an egg to a ball. Trees were uprooted and houses damaged in and around the listrict city.
