A piracy occurred near the Ninet Pins Group yesterday. According to the master of a trading junk which returned to port at 8 o'clock last night, the junk was sailing past the group at 11 am. when they were overtaken by a small boat astern. When the stranger, was about 60 yards off she opened fire with rifles. Being unarmed the trading junk was compelled to stop whereupon the pirate craft made fast alongside. She had a "crew" of four armed men, but only one man with a long knife boarded the prize vessel. He drove all the crew into the hold and then ransacked the living quarters: The pirates were evidently only out for money for nothing was taken apart from $21 the property of the master of the junk. The outlaws rowed away towards Nine Pins. At 1.30 p.m.,

NAVAL MOVEMENTS.

The lat Cruiser Squadron (of which H.M.S. "Frobisher" is flag- ship) left for Mire: Hay to-day for

H.M.S. "Ambrose" is to sail to morrow for Wei-hai-wei where it is intended she will stay the summer.

To re-adjust her ventilating system for the hot weather, H.M.S. "Hermos" is shortly going into dock.

BRITISH STEAMER MISHAP.

London April 8. Oran-The British steamer "Clan Mackenzie," from Bassein and Rangoon to the United King dom, arrived here on Wednesday with the fore-peak full of water.

Divers report that the plating is cracked on the starboard side and they are pumping out the fore-peak.

DERELICTS,

Information has been received by the Harbour Office that the wreck of a junk, with two masts showing, is reported in a position approximately five miles south of Nine Islands.

Tho wreck is that of a junk which, being towed by a launch and carry- Ing a cargo of rice and general merchandise, sprang a leak at 10 p.m. on April 29 and foundered.

The 8.8. "Benmbhr." on arrival here from Manila, reports sighting wreckage with six feet of mast showing, apparently attached to some submerged object.

This morning there were ocean-going merchant vessels in Hong Kong harbour, of which num ber 23 fly the British flag.

During the 24 hours. ended at 9 a.m to-day, there wore 17 arrivals (9 British) and 23 departures. (7 British).

HARBOUR OFFENCE.

For anchoring 'in the cable re- serve off Douglas wharf, in the harbour, the owner of a trading junk carrying bricks was fined $15 nt the Marine Court this morning.
