With reference to the attitude of Japan on the China question, the "Kokumin" says "Japan, Great Britain and the United States have decided to start diplomatic negotia tions with the Nationalist Govern- ment relating to the Nanking atrocity. We do not dwell on claims to be set forth but think that the prestige and dignity of the state must, above all, be defended,
because they were insulted and disgraced by Chinese. Diplomatic negotiations unsupported by might will not achieve merit. We do not want to harass China, because we
n
have to pay dearly for such measure, but Insist that pursue a policy of strong concert and that they will not waver before difficultion."

The decoration work of 145, Ple- cadilly, the future home of the Duke and Duchess of York is pro- ceeding apace. Already the nur- sery and the top floor are ready for occupation, while the drawing- room, which promises to be a mag- nificent and regal apartment, wil soon be completed. It уда popularly supposed that the bou- doir of the Duchess would be blue, her favourite colour. Actually 145, Piccadilly, is notable by the com parative absence of this colour, which is only seen blended, with a number of other soft paste, shades on the walls of a number of rooms. The Duchess has framed a back- ground which will contract rather than tone with her favourite toilet- tes, and her boudoir is done in greens and greys.
