BIC CASH SWEEP.
Names of the Lucky Winners.
The Arst prise of $23,058 in Wednesday'a cash sweep for the Champions was won by Mr. Hy G. Taibet. of the Green Island Cement Co., Ltd. »'
Mr. Talbot bought his ticket --No. 1767-on the ground shortly before the race was run.
The second prize of $6,588 was won by M, Ge berger, a broker of the Shangh Exchange, and the third prize of $3,295 was won by Mr. Mok Ting-po.
This had the desired effect-an. effect. so dear to the heart of those ever on the alert for long priced odds.
Favourites did not do at all, badly so that the majority of puhters must have enjoyed the day; but qutsiders came in now *fand then to keep up the sequence of unexpectedly big dividends re- turned throughout the week.
Altogether, the 1927 meeting, will go down as one of the most successful of recent years. Fields were mere often on the big aide than not and the sport was all" that could be desired.
The most important race of the day was the seventh-over a mile and a quarter-being the Profes- sional Cap and Subscription Grif- fins Champions. Mrs. R. J. Pater son's Skidoo (again ridden by Mr. E. A. Brodie). Was the favourite and won in a thrilling finish by a short head! Last year, Messrs. R. M. Dyer and. B. D. F. Beith won with Total Ab stinence. They were represented by Tangle and he ran a game last in a field of five. Consecutive vic tory for Messrs Dyer & Beith would have meant outright pos stssion of the coveted cup. Skidoo had won the subs, chal- lenge cup on Tuesday, following op Mrs. Paterson's success last year with Dobbin.·
An old feature of "off days" was revived in the race for mafoos. The event for United Services, began last year, was in fcluded in to-day's card instead of
the third day.
. The Shanghai gentlemen riders down for the meeting were all here to-day-this, being rather unusual and they carried off the [majority of the honours.
