TILDEN'S QUEST.

Philadelphia, Dec. 28, William T. Tilden began his fight to re-capture the national singles lawn tennis title which he had held from 1919 until this year when he defeated Manuel Alonso, the famous Spanish Davis Cup player, 6-1, 6-3, 6-4, The matches were the finals in the Pennsylvania Athletic Club indoor tournament.

Paired with Wilbur Coen of Kansas City, he won from Alonso and Gene Dixon by default arte four hard-fought sets in the doubles-China Press.

It is because of the existence of that system that some command- ing officers in India discourage junior officers from joining clubs, especially urban clubs..
