Washington, Oct. 18-Further declines in the volume of world shipbuilding are noted by the De partment of Commerce in reports received from its representatives abroad, according to an announce- ment to-day. The total tonnage on the ways at present, according to the reports, amounts to only 1,850.000 gross tons of merchant vessels, which is a decline of more than 350,000 tons from the amourt a year ago. The present figure, it is also noted, represents a decline of about 1,800,000 tons froin the general pre-war level,

HARBOUR OFFENCE.

For mooring his boat outside two other boats alongside the s.s. "Siberia Mari” on November 26, the master of, motor-boat Sun. Kwong Loong" was fined $5 at the Marine Court this morning.

HUGE HARBOUR LIGHT.

A powerful searchlight has been installed at the Yokohama Senpaku Shingo-Jo station at Yokohama. harbour, located on the Pluff. The light is 18,000, candlepower and has lens 48. cen- timetres in diameter. The light flashes four miles in daytime.and. 20 miles at night: The light is to be used as a means of signal- ling and also to light up the Yokohama harbour in the event of necessity, especially in the case of marine disasters. The Yoko hamu Senpaku Shingo-Jo is the only private Institution ever given the privilege of installing such

large light."

On the incoming "Seistan" from Singapore yesterday, there was'a case of suspected typhoid.

The beacon laid on November 15 by H.M.S; "Iroquois” 848 de-. grees 2.2. miles from Gap Rock lighthouse has been removed.
