NO NEWS ABOUT THE S.S." HOI NAM."
LATEST POSITION,
As this edition went to press the owners of the s.s. "Hoi Nam" in- formed the "China Mail" that no telegram had reached them from Kwong Chow Wan regarding the expected arrival there of the versel.
They have no access to other intelligence. The position, and news gleaned earlier in the day follow
WHAT NEWS IS GOOD. GOOD.
Interesting developments have followed, in quick succession, the acts of violence on the Chinese s.s. "Wah Shan" which was bringing treasure, livestock and a general cargo from Kwong Chow Wan to Hongkong.
Seen this morning, a representa tive of the Sui Lee Co., owners. told a “China Mail" man that he had received "good news" regard. ing the "Wah Shan." On learn- ing that the steamer had been taken to Shekki. his master had proceeded to Macao, en route for Chinshan, where negotiations had been opened with agents of the authorities directing the strike. The speaker was not in a position to say whether the cargo would be returned-and he gave the impression that beyond being interested in the safety of the ship, the cargo being, perhaps. more a matter for the shippers and/or consignees--but his in- formation was that there was little anxiety as to the ultimate fate of the "Wah Shan."
"Hoi Nam" A Marked Ship! Yesterday an unconfirmed re- port was mentioned in the "China Mail" that the ss. "Hoi Nam," plying in the same trade, had also been menaced by armed Bolshevik vessels.
This morning, the local office of the owners said that they had not been advised accordingly.
