BELOW BRITISH LEVEL The inconie tax was therefore re- Marketduced from 5s, in the pound to 4s... thus bringing it below the present British level The most striking part of the budget however was the announcement that the entire tea duty is to be remitted. And it is proposed to drop the imperial pre- ference on sugar on the ground that the countries which benefitted from it were British dominions from whom no corresponding advantage to the Free State was received, since they were not customers for Free State com- modities.

Messrs. Moxon and Taylor's latest Weekly Share Report states-

We have had a quiet market during the past week and most of the favourite stocks show a alight decline. although money still "ppears to be easy and there is a Bood demand for all investment stocks.

SUGAR OUTPUT.

BEET AND CANE CROP.

Rome, April 23-The Interna. tional Institute of Agriculture snys the sugar-beet crop of last year was decidedly larger than in 1923 in all producing countries. This result- ed from the general increase in sown and from favourable weather.

Sugar content in more important regions was higher than 1923. The world yield will approach "175,000,000 centals (one

cental equals 100 pounds), compared with 130,000,000 in 1923-24-

There is reason to belleve that the cane sugar yield will not be below the preceding season, and may be slightly above it.

While the Indian forecast is for a de, crease of 18,000,000.centals, resuit- tog from a decline in area and un- favourable weather, Cuba has a producilon surpassing the high yield of 1923-24..
