TIP FOR COOLIDGE.
THE PERSONAL TOUCHI
AND POLITICS.
-Washington, July 25.- Pree sident Coolidge is gathering considerable information on the political situation in West Virginia, the home State of John W. Davis, his Democratic rival in the November election.
Three conferences beating on the Situation in West Virginia have been held by the President within the week, and there was promise to-day of more similar meetings. Those who have discussed party affairs in West Virginia with Mr. Coolidge plainly said that Mr. Davis is highly -rogarded among the folks at home, but they would not concede any- thing when November possibilities were discussed.
Republican leaders generally re- gard West Virginia as one of the battle grounds of the campaign, be- cause it is Mr. Davis' hoine State. Charles Evans Hughes carried the State by about 3,000 against Woodrow Wilson in 1916, and Warren G. Harding had plurality of about 60,000 votes over James M. Cox fours years ago.
Mr. Coolidge hopes to have his acceptance speech completed ten days in advance of the notification ceremonies on August 14.
Use of the new method of send- ing pictures by telephone as a supplement to radiocasting by President Coolidge has been sug- gested by some of those connected with the Republican national campaign. The proposal was made to-day when John W. Weeks, Secretary of War, visited the White House with a print of a picture of himself, taken during the Re- publican national convention in Cleveland, sent by telephone to New York, and reprinted there within a few minutes after the original photograph was taken.
FATHER LEAVES CAPITOL,
The suggestion was that at the time of the President's radio campalga address, mass meetings could be arranged to hear some campaigo orator and also hear an amplified radio talk by the Re- publican Presidential nominge. A photograph could be taken of Mr. Coolidge, standing at the microphone in the White House just as he began speaking, trans» mitted by telephone" to the cities where the meetings were being- held, printed and distributed to the audience as it left the hall This, it was argued, would'afförð the audience some of the feeling of the personal touch absent from radio addresses.
