SUCCESSFUL

MEETING.

GOOD SPORT DESPITE RAIN.

Though the 'rain interfered with "the performances of the com- petitors at the Victoria Recreation Club's twenty second annual athletic meeting at Happy Valley on Saturday, it did not damp their enthusiasm, H. E. the Governor, Admiral Sir A. Leveson and Sir interested Claud Severn were spectators during the afternoon.

There were a few surprises in the meeting, one being the defeat of Stoker Bell in the one mile handican. In the Marathon, Lieut. Armstrong was adjudged the winner, though he finished third. Two Indians in front of bias were disqualified for not completing the cours?

The results were :- 1-LONG JUMP (THREE TRIES).

STEAMER MISHAPS.

ICHANG, April 27. The water, rising rapidly, caused the "Paklang" which struck the rocks here on April 16, to become a total loss. It is reported that The nothing of her can be seen. "Robert Dollar" from Chungking struck the rocks at Tai Pan Tzu Reef, near Chang Shu on Thursday morning and sank in a very short time. The foreign passengers were all saved but it is feared that a number of Chinese were drowned. The steamer"Wan Hsien" proceed- Ing to Chungking met with an accident at Lochi, but it is reported not to be dangerous. The steamer "Kwei Lee" on her way to Hankow last Thursday morning, met fog above Chiklang and struck the rocks while turning to anchor. The Prince of Wales' constant falls from horses have alarmed the British public, which urges him to give up riding. On & recent exhibition he fell from his hunter on the Billington Steeple- chase Course, near Leighton-Buzzard, Bedfordshire, and broke his collar bone. On replay Pui Ying was award- ed two penalties. The first penalty was shot wide but they cored, the second one. Ten minutes before time they scored another goal and the match ended with S. H. 4 and Pul Ying 2.

Sacred Heart and Pui Ching met on April 21 under a scorching 2 sun. The referee had a busy time. Whistles were often heard for off- ..0 side play because the Sacred Heart played one back game while the opponent backs kept very near" to" the goalie. Some spectators were not satisfied with Pui Ching's defeat by an odd goal because they seem to be ignorant

off-side play.

The Sacred Heart team'met the Canton Christian College team of April 17 hefore a big crowd. The match was not 10 minutes old before every player was covered. with mud. During the middle of the match the rain poured down so hard that the ball could hardly be seen and was altogether out of the players' command. Rain spoiled the match and it is a pity that the C. C. C. declined to meet the Sacred Heart again on a fine day The S. H. lost the match 4-1.

A big crowd turned out to wit- ness the match between Sacred Heart and Higher Nornal on April 22. Players of both sides played very hard in spite of the strong sun and at the interval Sacred Heart was leading by one goal. In the second half the Higher Normal forwards tried to level up On April 18 the Sacred Heart hat they were checked every time met the Pui Ying College.
