THE CORONET.
"THE GIRL I LOVED.'
"Thundering Dawn' is on, its last day's run at the Coronet and will be followed by Charles Ray in The Girl I Loved." This picture is said to show Ray's acting abilities in an entirely new light, whilst the plot is a narrative based upon the famous poem by James Whitcomb Riley.
Ray retains his whimsical touches, and his disarming. Smile, and the entertainment has been pronounced a big hit at Home.
SCRAMBLE FOR COINS.
TREASURE UNEARTHED BY GELIGNITE.
About 100 years ago, when what is now The Subiaco Estate, Dundas (near Sydney) was wild, virgin buso, some one secreted at the foot of an old gum tree a bag of coins. What happened to the Owner nobody knows he never recover- ed his treasure.
A storm swept the Parramatta Flats, and the old gum laid low, snapped off several feet from the ground. A few days ago work- men found the old, gnarled stump to be an obstruction, and a charge of gelignite was put under it. The charge went off, and scattered the coins in all directions. They were "scrambled for by the surprised workmen, and later the spot be came a happy hunting ground for children of the neighbourhood. Whether the plant had any connection with old bushranging days, whether it was the proceeds of a robbery by an escaped convict, or whether the coins were hidden by an early im migrant on his journey west, there are no means of deciding. The dates on the coins found by chlidren after the main part of the treasure trove had been removed are all earlier than 1800. The coins had been enclosed in a canvas or hessian bag, which was much rotted when unearthed.
