Pearce won the toss and elected to bat, Sayer and Rumjahn facing
the bowling of Lammert ́ and Bowker. Starting none too aus- piciously, the travellers had 7 wickets down for 133 although Tam Pearce and contributed 48. Wood then hit out and played a delightful innings. He scored with ease and only gave two palpable chances in his innings of 85.........
Going in after half past two, the Rest were all out for 231,. thanks to a very lucky contribu tion of 91 by More, who survived half a dozon appeals for 1.b.w. Skipper Hancock hit two 6's and Hett one.
Bowker was the star bowler of the day. He took the Hon's share of "The Rast" attack and was con- sistent throughouthut had wretched luck. The ball with which he 'dis- missed Quick broke well on the off and hit the top of the leg stump.
On the whole, the fielding can- not be described as good although
it was keen-enough-Dropped- catches were very frequent. Play continues to-day. Scores :--
