CHINESE LOAN BONDS,

FRENCH HOLDERS

ANXIOUS.

PARIS, December 12. M. Poincaré, replying to a letter from M. Tardieu on behalf of a number of holders of Chinese five per cent 1913 (?) loan who have not been paid dividends since September 1921, states that so far as this particular loan is concerned the Chinese Government can invoke no valld reason to justify non-payment of dividends. French diplomacy bad continued to urge the absolute necessity of China's respecting her obligations in regard to French holders of the loan. The political instability of China had rendered vain the steps hitherto taken thereanent by the French Legation in Peking but negotiations would be renewed as soon as the new Government was constituted and would be followed up with all regard to French interests..

DELEGATE RE-ELECTED.

BRUSSELS, December 13. Views recently expressed in a French inter view with Mr. Ramsay Macdonald were quickly taken up in the Chamber during a debate: Premier Theunis replying to criticisms made by the social ist Van Der Velde, asserted that Mr. Macdonald's first declaration after the Labour success at the polls, was that he insisted on the payment of inter- allied debts. Van Der Velde said such a declar- ation would contradict the engagements taken at the Frankfort Conference and if Mr. Macdonald did not honour engagements, they knew how to recall them to him.
