H.M,S, ROBIN.

CREDENCE STILL GIVEN PIRACY YARN.

LATEST TIDINGS.

The statement that H. M. S. "Robin" ran foul of a pirate gang up the Canton River is still given credence in well-informed local circles. The latest version of the affair is that two junks with hawser attached. were lying across the fairway as the "Robin" was coming down stream. The junks are said to have closed in on the "Robin" presumably intent on piracy. The "Robin" opened fire according to the first report, to which the pirates replied. The casualties among the Chinese are not known, but only one is now alleged to have been injured on H. M. S. Robin". The Secretary to the Admiral, seen yesterday, stated he had no official news of the incident. Over the telephong this morning, the report still lacked confirmation.

On Tuesday night at 7.10 p.m. all ratings, of H.M.S. "Marazion," were warned by telephone to return to ship at once. The story then was that the" Marazion,"was to go the aid of the Robin" and bring back her casualties which were said to number ten. Though no light can be thrown on the matter by the naval authorities, colour is given to the story of piracy by the fact that police were searching the trains from Fanling for arms this morning, which led to the belief that pirates werd on the move again.

CRIME.

MAN HACKED TO DEATH.

A murder took place at 10 am. this morning. The victim, was a Chinese living in a room on the first floor of No. 3, Wai Tack Lane, leading off Wellington Street. He was set upon by three men and killed with choppers..

The culprits managed to make good their escape before the police arrived. The ambulance was im- mediately sent for, but the victim was dead, having died alnost at once from his frightful injuries.

The murdered man leaves a wife and small children.

The murder attracted a large crowd of Chinese who packed 'the lane and left a large number to wait outside la Wellington Street to watch events.

The motive of the crime is not known but as it was evidently not robbery a personal grudge is suspected.
