EXTRA GYMKHANA.
REVIEW OF SATURDAY'S, NOMINATIONS.
[BY ARGUS.]
At Happy Valley on Saturday afternoon, the curtain will be rung down on racing for 1923 with a card of seven events. There is, it is true, some talk of another gymkhana being held before the Spring Meeting, but it is scarcely likely in view of certain work that
has to be carried out on the course. The first race on Saturday, the Hamilton Sprint (5 furlongs), has attracted Kileen (155), Jadestone (155), Malvern (155), Skylight (155), Chessman (152), Discard (150), Fire King (150), Mopoke (149), Olive Leaf (149), Maine (149).
Mopoke, on his second to Ari- zona last meeting, appears the best on the book; but Olive Leaf and Fire King must not be left out of the reckoning. Of these three probably Olive Leaf is the most trustworthy and, if Mr. Soares rides, I expect he will just about win. Jadestone is credited with some fast times in training and may upset all calculations. The dis- tance is too far for Malvern, though he has covered 4 furlongs in 60 sec, If Chessman does not wear himself out at the post, he is nearly certain to get place and no win would be more popular.
The second event is the Kil- marnock Handicap ("A" class 6 furlongs).

London of Mr. Hector William Sassoon, which was received by cable yesterday, came as a shock to many friends. Mr. Hector Sassoon, who was a director of the well known firm of Mestra. E.D. Sassoon and Co., Ltd., had not resided in the Colony for more than about three years, but in that time made a wide circle of friends. He left with Mrs. Sassoon, early in the Kowloon, whence and/or from the present year, to spend the summer harves delivery may be obtained,
Optional Cargo will be forwarded at home and had intended visiting India on his way back to Hong-unless notice to the contrary be given kong, but he fell ill at home and before 24th inst. his death occurred on Saturday last following upon a surgical opera tion. Mr. Sassoon was only about 36 years of age, and it is hardly necessary to add that deep sympathy is felt for Mrs. Sassoon in her sudden bereavement
The flag of the Hongkong Club was at half-mast yesterday as a token of the regret of the members. Mr Sassoon was on the director- ates of several local companies; Including the Hongkong Land Investment, Co., the Kowloon wharf and Godown Co.," the Canton Insurance Office, the Hongkong Fire Insurance Office, and the Peak Tramways Co.
Mr. Hector Sassoon, as a member of Hongkong Jockey Club, owned a stable which figured prominently at the 1922 and 1923 race meetings. At the annual meeting last March

CONSIGNEES of Cargo are beraby Rivergrass (154) Drake (154), informed that all Goods are being Country Mouse (154), Ding Dong (141), Olive Leaf (140) The first named is a doubtful starter if he wins the second event, entailing a 7 lb. penalty. At the weight Drake should win if only he will put his heart into it. Rivergrass has been kindly treated and may prove the best on the day in view of Drake's, dislike to the game. In the absence ofBluebottle, Rivergrass is certain ly a safe wager each way.
We next come to the Gorbals the 3rd prox. will be enbject to rent. Al claims against the steamer must Galop (B. class handicap 6 fur-

he stood second among the success-THE Steamship The following names appear: ful owners with 6 firsts, 3 seconds Ramsbury (163), Strathfarrar (157), 1 and 5 thirds. His "Roman Re- Violet Leaf (156), Speckled Mouse Į public" won the Champion Stakes. (156), Bluebottle (155), Clover Leaf (155), Petrol King (154), Ragtime (151), Rivergrass (150), Laurel Leaf (150), Sovereign Bill (150), Arizona (150), Drake-(149), Country Mouse (149), Gold Bill (149), Adonis (147), Pencastle (146), Copper Bill (144) I hear that both Speckled Mouse and Gold Bill are lame, but Mr. "Bill" has other nominations, while Mr Humphreys can rely on Country Mouse. I expect the field will be reduced to Strathfarrar, Bluebottle, Arizona, Country Mouse and a representative from the Car- roll and Bill stables. Now that the top" I going fancy Bluebottle will stall off all comers despite the fact that Arizona,
receipt in 3lbs, beat him over this distance on the first day of last meeting, DEA DE HE BEL{ when Mopoke split the pair. The going will suit Strathfarrar also. The latter meets Country Mouse on glbs. better terms than when they met over a mile in the Shek O Handicap last meeting, which should reverse the placing.
The third race is the St. Andrew's Quaich(1 miles). Thirteen names figure on the card, but I'anticipate a small field. I understand the following are certain to face the starter; Ramsbury (165), Silver Bill (163), Pencastle (157), Kuka- burra (157), Ivy Leaf (152), The Gambler (144).
