LEAGUE CRICKET.
C. R. C. BEATEN BY UNIVERSITY.
Good fielding more than any. thing else enabled the University to scundly defeat the Chinese RC in the First League match on Saturday. Playing on the Chinese ground, the home team batted first, and though they did well, so 'safe was the folding that hits which wouldordinarily have brought three or four runs only produced one. It is significant that W. Hong, who went in first and played very well,

OBITUARY
MR. M. H. ABBAS.
-The news of the death of Mr. M. H. Abbas, at the French Hos- pital yesterday afternoon, came as. a sad shock to his relatives and a wide circle of friends...
The late Mahomed Hosain Abbas was born in Hongkong some 28 years ago and had already won fame on the football and cricket fields; in addition he was a more than useful boxer. At cricket, he played for Craigengower in the First League, and his bowling has for some years been of great service to the Club. Mr. Abbas was stricken down with fover a fortnight ago. Typhoid was sus- pected, and in midweek the patient's condition was critical. His strong constitution enabled: him to make a fight, however, but the end came yesterday as stated. Mr. Abbas was employed in the British American Tobacco Com- pany, where he had been for about twelve years. He was married only three years ago, and leaves a young widow with two little daughters, the younger being less than a year old.
Much sympathy is extended to Mrs. Abbas and family and to the father of the deceased in their sad [bereavement. Mr. Abbas, Senr., is very well-known in the Colony, being one of the oldest employees at the Naval Yard, where he has been for 38 years.
The funeral took place at Happy Valley last evening, the place of interment being the Maliomedan Cometery. The large number of friends and acquaintances who followed the coffin testified to the great respect and esteem in which the deceased was held. The chief mourners were the father and three brothers. Many wreaths were laid upon the grave, including one from the British American Company.
