WING to the receipt of anteros complaints from patrous as to the incivility of various members of the Staff of the Hotels under the Management of this Company in Hongkong, such complaints being to the eflect that Cash has been demanded in satisfaction of Liquors supplied, and patrons thereby inconvenienced by not boing allowed to sign "chita," we beg to draw the attention of our clientele to the terms of the Liquors Ordinance, 1917, an extract from which is hereby given :-

2. In this Ordinance.

(or "Cash" means any coins or notes current in the Colony. (b) Sala" includes any transaction in which intoxicating liquor is supplied for any consideration whatsoever, direct or indirect.

3. (1) Subject to the provisions of sub-section (2) of this section, no person shall sell any intoxicating liquor for consumption on or at any licensed premises except for cust

(2) Sub-section (1) of this soction shall not apply to the following:- (a) any sale by the proprietor of an hotel to a person residing at

the hotel:

(b) ang sale by the proprietor of an hotel of liquor to be consumed in the dining mom of the hotel at one of the regular meals of the hotel or of liquor to be consumed in conjunction with any other bona fide nieal for which a charge of at least thirty cents can be reasonably mado;

(e) any ante in accordanes with the conditions of his liconee by

the holder of a restaurant adjunet liconce.

4. Where any intoxicating liquor is sold by a servant or employes in contravention of section 3 of this Ordinance the employer, whether a natural person or a body corporate, shall be deemed to be guilty of an offence against thin Ordinance unless he proves aflirmatively that the sale was against his express orders and without his consent or connivance.

5. Every person to whom any liquor în, to the knowledge of such person, supplied in contravention of this Ordin. ance shall also be guilty of an offence against this Ordinance.

The co-operation of our Patrone, with a view to assisting us to carry out the provisions of the Liquore Ordinance, is respectfully requested. -
