HOME POLITICS.

LATEST GOVERNMENT CHANGES.

M'KENNA'S POSITION.

NEVILLE CHAMBERLAIN CHANCELLOR. (Reuter's Service to the Ching Mail)

LONDON, August 27, The fact that Mr. McKenna's declining the Chancellorship of the Exchequer was due to the inability to find an uncontested seat in the House of Commons is revealed in a letter Mr. McKenna has written to Mr. Baldwin pointing out that he accepted office on the condition that a seat was ayailable, not involving the exertions of a by-election, whereon his doctor insisted. No such vacancy was likely to acenr and he had again consulted his doctor who had dissuaded him from undertaking the strain of a series of public meetings until his normal health was restored. He concludes by reafirming con- fidence in the policy Mr. Baldwin outlined three months ago.

The Rt. Hon. Reginald M'Kenna, P.C., has been Chairman of the London Joint City and Mid- land Bank since 1919. He was Liberal M. P. for North Monmouthshire from 1895 to 1918. He was Financial Secretary of the Treasury in 1905, Pre- sident of the Board of Education from 1907 to 1908; First Lord of the Admiralty from 1908 to 1911, Home Secretary from 1911 to 1915, from 1915 to 1916.]

TERRIBLE CRISIS."

GERMAN PREMIER'S WARNING.

BOLSHEVISM DANGER.

(Reuter's Service to the China Afail.),

IN Chuang

LONDON, August 28. Herr Stresemann, the German Premier, in an interview with the Daily Graphic, said that if his. Gorerament fell accomplishing nothing he would perhaps be the last Bourgeois Chancellor of Ger- many. If that happened more of Europe than Germany would succumb to Bolshevism. If he could keep the people fed all might be well. An Anglo-Franco-Geroan understanding was the only thing which could possibly, restore order, peace and the welfare of Europe. All should work for the solution of the terrible crisis.
