SILA, July 27- The Muslims of India are rejoicing at the sign ing of the Lausanne Treaty. Twenty-five Mustin members of the legislature walted on the Viceroy (Lord Reading) to thank him and the Cabinet for their efforts in connection with negotiations and hoped peace would develop Anglo-Turkish entente. They thanked Mr. Stanley Baldwin, (Premier) and Lord Curzon. The Viceroy in replying said he hoped prace would restrengthen the former cordial Anglo-Turkish relations trusted. Indian Muslims old traditions of loyalty and attachment to the crown would shine forth with renewed vigour.

THE PREMIER.

RUHR, REPARATIONS, AND RUSSIA.

LONDON, July 27,

In a speech at Glasgow Mr. Stanley Baldwin the Fremier, said the kind of operation proceeding in the Ruhr was exactly the same in international trade as if one inserted a penknife into the works of a watch in so much that Britain had suffered owing to the confusion in mid Europe but now that she was beginning to suffer there would be no reparations for anyone until some form of financial stability obtain ed in Germany. He was of the opinion that Russia was one of the largest potential markets of the world whereto we must look to absorb German exports which would be represented by reparations, Otherwise we should be faced by the keenest competition.

THE RUHR.

REPLIES ON MONDAY.

PARIS, July

the completion of Franco-Belgian exchange of views it is semi officially confirmed that France and Belgium will reply separately by Sun day or Monday as certain aspects of the problen do not interest them in the same degree. It is declared, however, that both cabinets are completely agreed upon reaffirming the impossibility of nego- tiation with Germany before the cessation of passive resistance, and evacuation of the Ruhr can- not be considered until adequate payments have been made President Poincaré is willing to accede to certain Belgian contentions-regarding Cologne,

'CHINESE AGITATORS.

SANCTUARY DIFFICULTIES.

LONDON, July 26,

(Reuter's Service to the China Mail.)

VANCOUVER, July 26. President Harding in his speech commented on the fact that this was the first visit of an American President to Canada. He pointed to the century-old Americo Canadian friendship proving tu European nations that public will rather than public force was the key to international peace. He advised Canadians to guard against encoure aging any enterprise looking to Canada's annex- alon by the United States. "Let us our own gait along parallel roads you helping us we helping you!"

President Harding faid the ancient Bugaboo of the United States scheming to annex, Canada had disappeared years ago. "Heaven knows we have all we can manage now and room to spare for another hundred millions before approaching the inten- sive stago existence of any of the European states." He regretted that national and industrial exigen. cies necessitated the limitation of immigration into the United States but drew attention to the fact there was no quota for Canada wherefrom he said : "we gladly welcome all your sturdy, steady stock who care to come se strengthening ingredient and influence." Reverting to the long period of North- American peace he said if only European countries would heed the lesson of Canada and the United States they would strike at the root of disagree- meats and in their own prosperity forget to inveigh constantly at ours.

IMPERIAL AIRSHIP SERVICE:

GOVERNMENT'S POLICY.

LONDON, July 26.

The House Commons this afternoon said that 28 result of the Reports of the Imperial Defence and Importal Shipping Committee it had been decid- ed to resume development of airships and to pro- teed if barble by means of a commercial service saber than with fe operations. The government" acted in principle the Burney scheme under which a biweekly servite of six large airships to India would eventually be established.

Mr. Hoare added that the administration of the Burney scheme as far as matter of commercial aviation was concerned would come under the Air Ministry.

JAPAN TWO MATCHER U

MONTREAL, July 26. In the opening round of the Davis Cup tourney Shimidzu (Japan) beat. Crocker (Canada) 3-6, 9-7, 6-1, 8-6 and Fukuda (Japan) beat Rennie (Canada) 6-2, 6-1, 6-0;

[Canada, Japan, Hawaii and Australia are the American Zone entrants, France and Spain are to re-meet in the final of the European Zone after which the respective winners will play off for the right to meet the United States.]:

In the House of Commons Mr. R. McNeill, plying to Sir. E, F. Stockton, stated that the Powers were still considering the matter of holding a judicial conference on extraterritoriality in China. The suggestion that in the interests of China the British Government should prohibit Chinese agita- tors taking sanctuary in ̈international concessions was impracticable owing to the difficulty of carry- ing out such a policy equitably and effectively.
