REVENUE OFFICER'S, DEATH.

The Revenge Department lost a young and popular officer, by the death under tragic circumstances an Thursday morning, of Mr. Mowbray Arthur Hanoor, in the bathroom of his residence, No. 3, Armand Build, ings, Kowloon. Death was dan to carbonio oxide gas poisoning.

Mr. Hancox wint to his bath as ususi at 8 o'clock. When he failed to make an appearance at breakfast, the "boy" wads to his bedroom, and. not finding him there, tried, the bathroom door and found it looked on the inside. The "boy" becams alarmed on receiving no reply to his knocks and summoned sistance. Beveral neighbours · arrived, and forced the door. On entering they found Mr Haucor lying face down- wards on the floor. The air in the bathroom W42 very close, and asphyxiation was immediately ap- parent.

Dr. Balean WAS summoned and artificial respiration WAS tried, but without effect. The deceased had apprently shaved in the bathroom, and was there for some time with the geyser going, and this bad ased up all the oxygen in the closed room. He became taint from the affects of the carbonia oxide gas, and collapsed before he could reach the door. That the deceased had realised hís danger and made an effort to get out of the room was apparent from the position in which he was found with the key underneath his body.

Me Hancox who' was anmɔrijed would have celebrated his thirtieth

| birthday on the 24th of this month. He first came out East in 1911-se à Mercantile Marine spprratice, and after making several tripa he joined the Chinese Maritime Customs. Later he left to join the Staff of Holt's Wharf at Kouloon. He entered the Government service as a revenue officer on probation in June of last year,

Although of a quiet disposition, he was always full of life and in high spirits, and was much liked by all who knew him. Hia untimely death will be regrafted by many, and thadapest sympathy is extended to his parents and relatives at tomr.
