BRITAIN IN INDIA.

LLOYD GEORGE TALES.

LONDON, August 2. In the course of a debate in the Commons concerning the anxiety of British civil servants in India in regard to the effect of the constitutional re forins on their position Mr. Lloyd George said that despite drawbacks there bad boen a very satisfactory measure of success in the great experiment of the self-government of India but the real test would be whether the moderates or the anti-British extremiste were returned at the next clection. If the Inttor that would constitute a serious situation which Britain would have to take into acc sunt. The emphatically declared that Britain would never relinquish ber responsibilities to India and would take whatever steps were necessary to discharge, or enforce them because the withdrawal of the strong Land of Britain from ladia would result in anarchy. The Britiab civil-service must remain in India. The Government would see they got fair play. The British Empire meant at all costs to continue to discharge her sacred trust in India and to fulfil ber high destiny. (Cheers.)
