It is the library that counts, not the Pickford man; and with that he pointed to additions and improvements, and to the fact that it was the first library to have electric light.

In a

Cury snuggery embedded amongst avenues of bookshelves, where he chatted with a Daily Chronicle repetitative, there is over the door a curious fragment of history in two photographis enlargements of the name of Charles S. Parnell.

They are facsimiles in contrast, one reproducing a genuine signature and the other a notorious forgery. The first named had been taken from a letter, signed "Yours very truly "; the other was a laboured copy.

TIGOTT FORGERIES.

These were so exhibit in the memorable trial which, when Parnell's reputation se Irish leader way'at stake, sensationally resulted in the exposure of Richard Pigott, who, it will be remembered, confessed that the in- criminating letters were forgeries, fled the country, and committed suicide at Madrid.

As several counsel engaged in that famous case were members of the Inner Temple the exhibit has found a home in its library.

Booke there are at every turn in its quiet cloisters. About two-thirds of the 76,000 volumes are law works, and there are also very fine collections of county histories, English literature and many manuscripts left by William Petyt, who was treasurer in the days of Queen Anne. The novelists, of course, include Charles Dickens, whose son, Mr. Henry Fielding Dickens, is the present treasurer.
