SANDRINGHAM KINEMA,
THE KING AND QUEEN WATCH
"THE KID."
For the first time in its history the ball-room of Sandringham House be came a crowded kinema, more than 500 gucets assembling, at the invita- tion of the King and Queen, for a moving pictures entertainment, which included the Chaplin film, "The Kid," "The
Runaway Express," and "Fresh Air," the last two-named being shown for the first time in England.
The royal party, which included the King and Queen, Queen Alexandra, the King and Queen of Norway, Princess Victoria, Princess Mary, and Prince Henry, sat in the front rows about 30 feet from the screen-classe in the kinemas as the cheapest seats. At the conclusion the King sent for Mr. Winik, of the Western Import Film Co., who recently arrived from America, and thanked him for the very enjoyable entertainment.
The Queen also expressed her pleasure. "I had heard a great deal about 'The Kid,'" she said, "and am very glad of the opportunity of seeing it." Queen Alexandra Also much enjoyed the entertainment.
Music and dancing brought much merriment to Sandringham House when the Borvante' ball WAS held there. The staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the dance, which
is an annual affair. and members of the royal party in resi- dence at Sandringham attended the ball during the evening.

pleaded guilty.
Mr. Wilfrid Powell, her solicitor, Isaid that when she was only 20 she was ft alone in the world. Her father was a drunkard and committed Buicide. She inherited his craving for drink but was oured. She then i undertook very hard work and on the advice of a narse took to morphia, Before this charge she spent about €70 on a drug cure at a London home, but unfortunately the doctor who, attended ber failed to warn her and ber friends of the care that would be necessary in the future. She came out of the home Buffering frightful pain her whole body was writhing with it and took to morphia again to stop it.
The woman, having written her "proper name on a piece of paper, said she was first induced to take the drug three years ago by a nurse to counteract the desire for alcohol.
Dr. Martin, of Elstree, Hertford- shire, said he had known the woman about 18 months and was called to
her in November before she came to London for the drug cure. "It was very drastic treatment," he said. "which practically rendora the patient insane at the time and leaves her in a very week condition and in pain."
The Magistrate (Mr. d'Eyncourt) Treatment which you approve of !
Dr. Martin: It is a treatment know nothing about except that I know what the results would be.
Did you approve of a drastic treat- ment that practically takes away person's sense for a week t-I think 80.
Dr. Martin added that even if the woman kept away from the drug for 4 or 5 months she might relapse at any time. Those cases were never satisfactory. The best chance was to keep the patient occupied and build up the res'sting power.
The magistrate said he thought the woman had been very badly advised He sentenced her to six indead. months in the second division.
