FATAL NOSE DIVE.

The War Department announces that the "Roma" was engaged in trial flights following the installation of Liberty motors replacing the Italian engines with which the airship was originally equipped.
Eye witnesses state that the Roma was flying at from 600 to 1,000 feet when a wisp of smoke appeared. The craft suddenly fell obliquely earth- wards, striking one of the naval base barracks. Men were seen leaping out. Some were equipped with parachutes. The passenger cars broke away and feil to the ground pining a dozen men underneath.
The clicial explanation says that the vertical controle carried away causing the machine to nosedive striking the high tension electric wire en Foute and thus setting fire to the vessel.
TRADE REVIVAL PROSPECTS.

Speaking at Leeds, Colonel Armstrong, President of the Federation of British Industries, said that extensive information at the disposal of the Federation showed there was small hope of a general revival either in the home or export trade in the near future. Everything indicated we might still have to wait a year or longer.

The Senate forego relations committee had a long debate on the pro- posed reservation to the Pacific treaty that "no adjustments or understand- ings reached under its provisions should be binding without the consent of the Senate." It is reported that the majority of the committee were inclined to approve the reservation.
PACIFIC POLICE FORCE.
NEW YORK, February 21. The Chicago Tribune, writing editorially with reference to Senator Johnson's attitude telegraphed earlier, declares that a strong naval base at:
