The Mayor (Mr. W. A. Linton) said that the Bench considered that the charge of persistent cruelty was not 'proved; but the magistrate suggested that the defendant and his wife had better remain separate for a time, and that the husband should make the necessary provision for her mainten

WOMAN'S APPEAL TO THE

THIEVES.

Described as the work of Rem brandt, a panel called "Adulteress before Christ" was stolen in a 20wt., safe carried away by thieves from No. 61, Upper George-street, Bryanston square, W.

The police have issued a description of the picture, which measures 10in. by 7in., to all art dealers in a wide radius, and are issuing a description of nearly £2,000 worth of other pro- perty stolen.

Mra.
