With a view to dissipating possible misunderstanding regarding its alleged support or intervention as regards the Barque Industrielle de Chine | the Chinese Legation has made a statement asserting total ignorance of what passed between Paris and Peking. It says that it has never hitherto made a statement either officially or semi-officially and the only business of one of its officials who was ordered to interview the Ministry of Finance and the Foreign Office was to obtain information.
