HONGKONG TIME SIGNALS.
The Time Ball on Kowloon Signal! Kill is dropped daily at 10 am and 4 p.m., except on Saturdays when it is dropped at 10 am and 1 pm, and on Sundays and Holidays when it is dropped at 10 am.
The Ball is hoisted half mast at the 55th minute and full mast at the 57th minute. Should the ball fail to crop at the correct time it will be lowered at 5 minutes past the hour and the ordinary routine repeated at the following hour, if possible.
Should the Time Ball be out of order the above routine will be carried cut with the fag the Storm Signal mart.

"From 8.56 to 9.00 pm. the lamps are extinguished momentarily at the even seconds, except at the 2nd, 28th 50th, 52nd, and 54th of each minute. The headquarter of the Canton Press Association was partly de stroyed by fire no the morning of January 16, when some 39 shops in the neighbourhood were also wholly or partly damaged.
A resolution to build a railway
from Walchow to Ping Wp Station of the Canton Kowloon Railway, distance cE 45 miles, has been passed by the Walyang Chamber of Commerce. Some $3,000,000 is needed to cover the expenses of construction.
In Tai Nam market, about 18 miles from Waichow, three junks conveying general cargo eastward under the protection of four police. men, were robbled on January 13 after two hour's fight. One policeman was killed and two rifles were taken by the pirates.
Mr. Szeto Wai, principal of the Primary Schools of Canton Christian College, will leave Canton next month for a year on leave in Eng. land to study educational methodds in Great Britain. He is going under the auspices of the Wesleyan Mission. Mr. Szeto, a graduate of Canton Christian College, was sent to Amer- ica on similar mission by the College: several years ago.
A very enjoyable evening was spert on Saturday by members of the Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders who beld a dance and concert, at which a number of lady visitors were present. At the concert songs were rendered by the Misses Frost, Messrs. T. G. Paterson, C. Edgcumbe and F. H. Farthing: Mr. Farthing also acted as accompanist.
