* SCHEME.

An ambitious scheme for inaugura- ting an airship circuit round the world is being organized by the Great Northern Aerial Syndicate, Liverpool, says the Daily Mail. They hope to have the first airship in service by next May, Liverpool is to be the principal *Jumping-off" ground. · Negotiations are being con- ducted with centres throughout the world with a view to acquire landing.

The airships, which the company are endeavouring to secure, are off two types. The larger ones, which will only call at the chief centres, are of the rigid class, capable of

⚫ carrying 150 passengers. There will be both first and second class apart- ments, the former at the top of the airships and the latter at the bottom...

There vessels will be served by smaller non-rigid airships, which will accommodate 30 to 50 passengers, and transport them from the smaller towns to the larger ships at the principal "posts.""

Three routes have so far been out- lined, viz

(1) Liverpool to York, Hull, Co- penhagen, Stockholm, Petrograd,

Tomik, Peking San Francisco, New York, Queenstown, and Dublin.

(2) Liverpool to London, Paris, Cairo, Colombo, Perth and Melbourne or Sydney.

(3) Liverpool to Cardiff, Lisbon Sierra Leone, Cape Town, and Buenos Ayres.

Efforts are being made to acquire some of the vessels which were under construction for the Government at the conclusion of the war. The smaller and non-rigid class already practically assured.

One of the biggest idol-processions for many years past took place on Oct. 22. It was a weird and wonder ful sight even to one who had lived long in this charging yet changeless land.

In common with other parts of China, cholera was prevalent in this city during the past summer. Further an unusual number of small fires, originating in mysterious ways, gave rise to stories of evil and malignant spirits who were making the city the object of their special spite.

It was to propitiate these "doviks " of fire, and sickness, and in the hope of-inducing them to leave the city, that several thousands of dollars were spent on "crackers.""" candies,' etc., and over 10,000 men and boys escorted through the main streets several of the most important idols. A special bamboo-and-paper ship had been constructed to accommodate the undesired visitors (the evi spirits), and on the ebbtide was sent on its voyage down the river. The people returned rejoicing in the hope that greater peate would be their lot as a result of the real. Why not? If faith can move mountains," it can surely remove such airy nothings as evil spirits.
