YOKOHAMA DIVORCE
SUITS.
The divorce suits instituted by Mr. and Mrs. Isaacs and Mr. and Mr. Davis have been settled and the divorces granted on June 20. The lapan Advertiser reports that the cases were amended and the divorces granted on the grounds of desertion, with the terms of settlement reached by mutual arrangement.
The terms of settlement in the Isaacs case are as follows: Mr. Isaacs is to pay his son Irwin Isaacs the sum of Y600 a month as long as the son lives. Mr. Iszace makes a deposit of Y100,000 as security. Mrs. Isaacs is to keep the house and contents on the Bluff, and she receives a back allowance of Y350 a month from the time of the separation.
21
In the Davis case, the "terms of settlement are practically the same, Mr. Davis is to pay Mrs, Davis. Y500 a month as long as she lives and remains unmarried. He also deposits Y100,000 security and in the event of the death of Mr. Davis or her remarriage; the income from this $11m gocs to the daughter, Edina. Davis, for life. Mrs. Davis re- ceives $250 a month back allowance from the time of the separation. In regard to the house on the Bluff, Mr. Davis pays to Mrs. Andrews, the mother of Mrs. Davis, who has a legal title to it, Y30,000 in cash. Mr. Davis is to remain the guardian of the daughter under certain condi tions. The daughter is to remain at the school she is now attending in Boston, and Mrs. Davis has the right " to see her at all times and to be with her as much as she wishes. At the end of a year it is expected that the daughter will go to England where the mother has been given the right
The Isaacs case came into the japanese courts in February 1916. The first action in connection with this case was filed about September

by Mr. Isaacs against Dr. Davies and Mrs. Isaacs, which resulted in the imprisonment of Dr. Davies for a dis. short period. This case was missed about a year later on the grounds of insufficient evidence. The case was than taken by appeal of the procurator to Tokyo Criminal Court of Appeal where it is now pending, but in view of the settle- ment which has taken place that case will be withdrawn.
In the meantime, about October 1916, Mrs. Isaacs brought an action of divorce against Mr. Isaacs, naming Mrs. EC Davis as co- respondent. Mr. Isaacs filed an action of divorce against Mrs. Isaacs naming Dr. Davies, as co-respondent. These two cases were allowed to remain in the Court pending the determination of the criminal case.
In February 1918, Mr. E. C. Davis brought an action for divorce against his wife, naming S. Isaacs as co- respondent. This case was tried and evidence produced
on both sides but ○
was decision reached. In addition to this divorce case, another case involving the Davis house on the Bluff caine up.. Mr. Davis had given to his wife the house in which they lived. Under Japanese law it is possible for a husband to cancel a gift, which he has made to his wife. This Mr. Davis tried to do. In the mean time, Mrs. Davis, entirely unknown to Mr. Davis, had transferred" the house to Mrs. Andrews,' her mother. Mr. Davis brought action against "Mrs. Andrews on the grounds that the transfer was not genuine. That action was pending, he left in a bank a strong box which When Mrs. Davis" went to America,
had the title-deeds to her house, some bonds and her jewelry, Unfortuna tely, she could not produce the receipt for this box and before the returned from America, Mr. Davis notified the Hongkong bank "not to give Mrs. Davis this box. Mrs. Davis brought suit against the bank and, getting judgment and exccution, she finally received the box.
PRINTERS AGREE TO POOL MATERIAL
A meeting of Shanghai lithogra phers, including the Commercial Press, Chung Hwa Book Company and other shops, was held on July 2 in the Printers Guild. The question discussed was how to remedy the serious lack of paper stock caused by the boycott against Japanese paper rnills. The fact was brought out that although the Chinese mills were meeting the demand to a limited' extent the demand far exceeds the supply, while shipments of paper from the USA and Europe could not be expected in a few months,
The meeting decided that "the" larger concerns which have sufficient stock on band should supply those who have no stock until new ship- ments could arrive to meet the needs.
