HONGKONG'S GENEROUS RESPONSE.
This year, ar last, throughout the British Empire, an appeal is being made to-day by street and other collections towards the support of the Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John ef Jerusalen-those great organisations which are engaged in the noble work of relieving the infering of our soldiers. and stars, from home and overseas, at it year, the various seats of war. Last
may be remembered, an effort was made at short notice in Hongkong, resulting in a collection of something like $12.000. This year, with more time for organisa. tion, a much bigger effort has been made, and it is perhaps not too much to expect that the contribution sent this year from Hongkong to the Central Committee in London will be, at least, twice as large as the sum sent
