HARD FIGHTING IN EAST PRUSSIA AND POLAND."

An official statement published at Petrograd atates:—— Hard fighting consitues on the Esa: Prussian front. Persistent attacks the region of Eaklarhero have been repulsed.

Beyond the Vistula the enemy's rear-guards have been pressed by the Russiana.

On the front from Lodz to Zwichost (Poland) the Russians have esptared parks of heavy gun: and aeroplanes, besides other booty.

The Austrians were encountereri south of Tarlow on Thursday by the Russians who crossed the Vistula, south of Josefow. The enemy' ander a Russian cross-fire suffered heavy losses and left a thousand prisoners.

The Austrians are most active in the Turks region of the Carpathians.

A further communique issued in Petrograd says:-The enemy attacked our Centre in East Prussia in the ragion of Bakalargeva, but were repulsed with tremendous losses. We have advanced in many districts in East Prussia. We are firmly occupying Postynin, Lenexica, Lodz and Ostrovee (ia Poland).

RUSSIANS ADVANCING.

LONDON, Nov. 2, 2.45 am.

A Petrograd ethicial statement announces that on the East Prussian front the Russian forces advanced in the region of Vladislavo in the forest of Romirtin. The German attacks in the Bakalarjevo region ceased owing to their terrible losses. The Russians, on the other side of the Vistula, are adancing victoriously along the whole front. They have occupied Petrokoff, Opotchizo, Ojaroff, Fighting occurred on the road to the last mentioned place, and the enemy's rearguard was routed with the loss of 100 prisoners, quickfirers and profision convoys. The Russians on the River San sterned Austrian fortifer positions near Lenchova and captured 500 prisoners and some quickfirers.
