An Absurd Report.
A paragraph has appeared in nearly all the Canton papers to the effect that since the attempt was made upon. Sir Henry May's life the Hongkong Government and put into force The Night Paan Ordinanco" which meant, according to the paragraph, that all Chinese found in the Beng kong streets after midnight would be, ahot! And also that all passengers arriving by the night boat from Cantos would be prevented from going ashore until, daylight.
The statement is believed to have
erchanted from the Cantou Government. who are doing all in their power to prevent the middle-classes fallowing the example of the higher and richer class leaving the city, as large nombers have been doing of late owing to trouble, being expected through the heavy discount on the Canton bank notes.
