A WASHERMEN'S STRIKE.
Higher Wagen Demanded.
A large proportion of the Chinese washermen of the Colony have gone ap strike on account of their employers! refusal to grant them on increase of 10 cerits in their daily wages. There are two washerman's guilds in Hongkong, and the disaffected washermen are said to belong to the older of the two.
It is stated that ́s recent increase in the pay of the monthly-paid washermen from $11 to $12 is the cause of the trouble. The other men at present re- ceive 60 cents per day, and in refusing their demand for an increase the masters pointed out that the increment - wolid amount to $3 monthly, and if their ro quest were acceded to the monthly man would probably demand to be paid ca s daily basis as this would mean to them an increase of nearer 9 than $18 month.

The monthly paid men have now come out in sympathy with the other men and in the meantime Europeans are won- dering when they will receive their clothes..
