A committee of exports appointed by the German War Office is conducting ex- periments with a new machine gun, which has been invented by a German named Schwarzioso, with a view to its introduction in the German Army instead of the Maxim. The "Schwarzlose" weighs 17 kilogram- ms, as compared with the Maxim's 24 kilogrammes, and is thus more easily transported. The coat is £125, as coin- pared with £200 for the Maxim. There is, therefore, a saying of £75 on cach gun. It consists, moreover, of 24 parts and one spring, as compared with the Maxim's 87 parts and 18 springs.
The Schwarzlose" has already been introduced in the Austro-Hungarian arming with what are reported to be excellent results. Franco has six of them, and other European cutries are experimenting, as Germany is, with a view to ite speedy adoption.
Germany's first Dreadnought will be launched on February 39 at Wilhelmshavn.
