FREEMASONRY UNKNOWN IN To-day's Advertisements

CHINA.

+

(To the Editor of the NEW YORK SUS:") Sir,-A despatch from Boston in "The Sun" of Angust 12 describes the burial of? -the assassinated Chinese as a "Masonic" fair, and the term "Masonic rites", iş used once or twice. There were no Masonic rites or coremonies at the Chinese funeral. Except in a few treaty porte, there are no Masonic orders in Chinu not even those of the spurious Grand Orient of Spain.

The ceremonial rites in question way possibly have been the ritual of the Long

I Goe Tong. This under, na toll by Chinese acquaintance, a gentleman of high rank, has an organization somewhat similar to Freomanry, but its purpose in the to Freema same, and it has in Freemasons, sonry. There are however, but they are mainly oficials who have joined the order in Europe, India or the United States; moreover, they are most worthy members. It is safe to say, however, think Masonry does not rench fo the Hip Singe or the On Loongs.-}, W. Redway, Mount Vernon. K. Y., Aug. 12.
