The parents, who can ill afford the journey, are so over joyed at this, that they are, at their own expense, travelling to Lourdes to retire thanks for the little one's recovery.

Reasons for the Rise.

It is of interest anys the Sydney Morning Herald, to review the causes that have operated in the direction of haecuning silver raloes. There is no doubt that the earwa of events since 1902, therefore, has neg atived the belief, then gonecally held. that silver would continue to decline in gold value. The supply bad been for many years nearly constant, and had exceeded the demand at the old prices. The German Imperial Government sold at one time large amounts of silver, and still retained enough to execute all its subsidary coinsgedown to a recaut date. Sti more recently, a fund, known ay the "Special Ingot Reservo," has been accumulated in London by the Indian Government, with the avowed purpose of being prepared to west coinsge demande in India promptly when they arcse. The last Indian financial statement etates that experience has shown that the amount of this reserve "originally sed was not large enough, and it has been decid. ed that its smount shall be doubled." The Padoption of this policy in India has been a natural result of the great expansion of the rep abipping ares by the extension of the railway network, and there are at present no indications of a cessation of the demand for the while metal in India. The Cuited States Government has also come into the market, and is making regular weekly purchases.
