Au auction salo wiibout a woman at it, and a rummage" sule at that," was the jhonomenon presented in Room No. 2 of 1, London Commerslal Sale Itoome; Bllac- ing-lane, on Tuesday, whon a very imposing: and voluminous catalogue of uneasidered trifles and quaint oddities left at the docks was gone through by the auctioneer with much gand nature and despatch.

The lots cambered 503, and occupied thirty-one pages of a catalogue Iin. by in. The bright particular star who kept the "house" and "lunch" in perpetual emilos An old American gentleman of excond- ingly original ideas and methods. He smoked cigars as fast as he could light the fresh one from the glowing butt of the old, but, like Mark Twain, never more than one at & tima. His battle cry was, "Got no more money" after which he would bid most spiritedly on the next lot go to a certain peist, and drop out with Let him have it," or "Got no more money,"

When a huge consignment of dates from the Far East was put up the auctioneer cautioned the bidders that the buyer must give a guarantee that they would not be used for human food.

Some remarkable bargains were knocked down at intervals; for instance, when a bidder secared 1,300ort. of booka for about 303., and another lob of 1,400ow, for trifte other cases of books nore; while several went for a fox shillings. A bidder secured 10016. of thistledown for 28. another a quarter of a ton of agricultural machinery for 228. Another man got 76et. of bulrush-down at 1d. alb.

Once a coffined terree, the remains of a man who died at ses or abcord, came to the docks. The consignce was notified to come for the gruesome parcel, Ho never re- sponded, perhaps because he thought the burial would cost more than he cared to pay. The company anxiously waited, but in the end had to bury the unwelcome corpse at their own expense. As one of the dock men grimly remarked "It'd a puzzled the dealers to find a customer for Foodar pretty package. Twouldn't fetch much at the salo, Iguses."
