Sir William Allan, M.P. for Gateshead, delivered a stirring address on Efficiency at a meeting of engineers, held in Dundee

I every age there has been an abundance of rophets, and the things they have foretold have generally been of a disastrous character. Yet till this old world of ours wags on more or less merrily, and supports a larger wumber of people in a greater degree of comfort than at any former period.
