As I have often stated in my stories of St. Mabyn (which have been so kindly prepared for print by the literary gentle- man in London) we have produced soveral preachers of the first rank in our parish.

we have not been so fortunate in sending out literary men. It is true Daniel Polvear wrote a book on India after he had been a missionary there for several

The usual reports from Chinese silk and cloth dealers that certain Laillées have absconded are beginning to be received by the police. About the end of each year these reports come in with unfailing regula... ity. Sir George Farrar has introduced a motion in the Transvaal Legislative Council in favour of the importation of Chinese labour to work in the mines.
The Attorney-General, Mr H. F.
Peter's Church wore also in attendance and their singing during the evening was hear tily appreciated by the audience. The report as presented by Rev. T. Wright showed that good work had been dune It the Church, the Institute, and among the prisoners in the gaul. Although the results were not as good as they would have liked them to be, still they had done some excellent work. The senior Chaplain was away in England during the scoater part of the year, and the burden of who work had fallen on the junior chaplain, who, although he had received ablo assis would have been done if both the chaplains were here. Tho finances were in rather an unsatisfactory condition, as the balanco against the Institute now stood at $500. The sailors who visited the port substantial ly subscribed to the funds of the Institute, and the Captains of the various vessels were boginning to acknowledge that the Seamen's Instituto had the soldiers' welfare at heart. Visits paid to the ships in the harbour numbered 2,670, and on every occasion they were heartily welcomed. Good work on n larger scalo would be done if the Institute were enlarged, said the Rev. gentleman in conclusion. Addresses were also delivered by Rear-Admiral Robinson and Mr II. E. Pollock, and recitations and solos wound up a very pleasant evening.
