theatre on Marino Lot 185.
Mr E. J. Grist (of Messra Wilkinson anel Grist) appeared on behalf of the plain tiffs, while the defendant was represented by Mr R. Harding (of Messrs Ewens and Harston).
His Honour said that ho did not know whether there were any particulars of the claim, as he had not seen any.
Mr Grist said there were no particulare supplied, as no application had been made for them. As the case stood, it appeared that defendant was a contractor, and con- tracted to build a theatre on the Marine Lot. l'ialutiffs wore sub-gontractors, and were engaged by defendant to do certain work on the lot. The work had been done, but had not been fully paid for. Plaintiffs had received certain stuns of money from defendant at various times, but there was still a balance due of the amount claimed,
Evidence was then led, and later the fur. ther hearing of the action was adjourned until Friday.
BOXING,
Good Sport at the City Hall.
The popularity of the sport of boxing was evinced last night by the crowd that assembled at the City Hall to witness four boxing contests arranged by Mr J. Chris- tie. The chief item was a twenty-round battle between Sam Newman, of Manila, and Preston, from the Amphitrite, for $400 aside, and a percontago of the gato money. The fight was of a torrid nature, while it lasted, and, until the last blow was struck,
it seemed as though either man would win.

The evening's entertainment was opened by a fifteen-round fight between Emmer- ton, of the Humber, and Denyer of the Leviathon. More than ordinary interest was centred in this event, owing to the fact that Emmerton had won two previous contests in the first round. This time, however, the fight lasted longer, for al though Emmerton opened with his usual rushing tactics he was unable to put his man out. Denyer fought a cool, deter mined battle, and tried throughout to land right swing to settle mat- In the fifth round body blows were exchanged, and Emmerton landed several rights in succession on the jaw, Denyer replied with cross counters on the head and ribs, but he was sent down in the corner, very groggy. E carelessness of Indian Railway Travellers in throwing articles from the windows of swiftly-moving trains is the cause of frequent injury to Platelayers and other railroad men. An empty bottle thrown from a train has great force. Newspapers are about the only thing that can be safely thrown out. A newspaper cannot hurt, and it has been known to save Hfo.
A Platolayer on the Great Central Railway of England read in a newspaper how Dr Williams' pink pills had cured a woman who suffered from chronic indiges- tion in exactly the same way as his own wife, Mrs Bartholomew, 6, Fowler-strect, Wincobank, Sheffield. I was under doc- tors for three years,' she said; but my disease was chronic. My appetite com. pletely failed; I could not sleep for the pains in my side and chest. Even milk' gave me frightful pains; my legs and feet For SAIGON.-- swelled so that I could hardly walk.' In consequence of a newspaper article Mrs Bartholomew began to use Dr Williams' pink pills for pale people. 'After the third bottle,' said she, I was completely' cured I have not been out of sorts since, and have increased a stone in weight."
