Fire in Gough Street..
A fire broke out in 32 Gough Street about 7.45 last night and practically des- troyed the place. The ground floor, where the fire started, was occupied as a medicine shop and the two upper floors as residences. The fire brigade under Inspector Baker was present and prevented the flames from spreading to adjoin'ng premises. The place was insured for $3000, which will probably covor the amount of damage done.

CLEAKING THE TRIAL LIST. This morning, Suit No. 91 of 1899, Lee Yew Nam and others v. Kwong Hung Shau, was called for hearing.
Upon the cause being called, Mr Seth Haid-No one appears, my Lord ; there ain solicitors on the record-Messrs Wilkinson and Grist and Mesars Deacon and Hastings.
His Lordship-I understand the defend ants contend that the case was settled by arrangement some time ago, plaintiffs haye not come here to dispute that statement ?
Mr Seth-- No.
His Lordship-Well, I think I must deal with the case under Section 296 of the Civil Code. That section says that when a cause is called on for trial if neither party appears the Court, may, if it thinks fit, strike the cause out of the trial paper under Section 296 of the Code. I would like to make one or two observations with regard to the delay on the part of the par ties in bringing on causes for trial which have been down for trial « long time ago, and. have been transferred in duo cour-o" from the General trial list to the trial paper. I saw her first at the bar of the Samoy Mixed Club. Stro-was smoking a cigarette and taking occasional sips at a sherry-and-the bitters. She was surrounded by a crowd of men, who all called her "Daisy." She was fair and healthy to look upon and brimful of merriment. She seemed to have a lot to say and her manner of saying it was so irresistible that the almost continual roar of laughter from her crowd of admiro.s made ordinary conversation impossible, Even two old men, who were discussing teals and rice in a far corner, gave it up, and joined the edge of the crowd, evidently thinking that they could not afford to miss any good things that might be going. It was, to me, a somewhat unusual sight.

NEW YORK, July 19.
A special dispatch from the London Times to the Tribune says that a deep laid and powerful plot to dethrone the King of Portugal has been discovered. The heads of the designed usur ation are high political leaders oleo to the throns and prominent officers of the army.
Like the conditions which existed in Servia, before the recent brutal murder of King Alexander and his Queen, the Por- tuguese plotters seem to represent the masses of the people. Many arrests have been made.

THE NEW FRENCH REMEDY
THERAPION
TRADE
MARK.
This successful and highly popular remedy, as uployed in the Continental Hospitals by Ricord, Rostan. Jobert, Velpeau, and others, combines all the desiderata to be sought in a medicine of the kind and surpasses everything hitherto employed.
THERAPION No. 1
in a remarkably short time, often a few days only, removes all discharges from the unnary organs, superseding injections, the use of which does irre parable harm by laying the foundation of stricture and other serious diseases.
THERAPION No. 2
for impurity of the blood, scurvy, pimples, spots, blotches, pains and swelling of the joints, secon- dary symptoms, gout, rheumatism, and all diseases for which it has been too much a fashion to em- ploy mercury, sarsaparilla, &c., to the destruction of sufferers' teeth and ruin of health. This pre- paration purifica the whole system through the blood, and thoroughly eliminates every poisonous matter from the body.
THERAPION No. 3
for nervousexhaustion, impaired vitality, sleepless- ness, and all the distressing consequences of early --- error, excess, residence in hot, unhealthy climates, &c. It possesses surprising power in restoring strength and vigour to the debilitated.
is sold by all
