Hongkong, April 99. As Friday and Monday were both public holidays, it was somewhat unfortunate that two of the three days allotted to the Tay Six Lopez match fell on these dates.

players entered, but I do not know how any games were played. Certainly there was no match play at the Club on Monday. A very successful season is now drawing a close, and the old delusion that

nothing

to

lasts three years in Hongkong is disproved both by the Odd Voluffer and the Chasa Club. "It would certainly be desirable to

keep the room open for two afternoon a week during the Summer months if the Club can afford it.

I am pleased to learn that the Conver Baziono not down for Monday, the 26th April, will not be held. The Annual General Meeting of the Chess Club will be held at the Grill Room on Friday, the 7th May, at 5.15 p... The annual report and statement of accmmts will be issued to members in the course of a few daya.

Horr Steinitz is released from Hospital, and is described by one who has seen him } as perfectly restored to health. He is of opinion that the American Consul should have interfered earlier to deliver him from

confinement which was nevar nessary.

OF

Of course no man is the best judge of his own sanity, but it seus quite possible that Moscow medical treatment may be the sovere for an old man suffering from the nervo stress at a prolonged and exhausting contest Insanitary surroundings. The Ladies' International Tournament to be held in June acat will be a unique cale- bration of the Royal sexagenary. Prinocas Charles of Denmark (lately Princess Maud of Wales in chief of the patronesses, and among the patrons there are many, titled personages as well as such Chess aristo- crate as Mesars Lasker and Pillsbury, Sir George Newnes presents the first prize of £80, and Baron Rothschild offers a Bril- liancy prize of £20. It is probable that the meeting will be a very successful one, and it should give a great stimulus to the study of Chess by ladies. It will be re- membered that Miranda played Chess with Ferdinand, but she accused aim of cheat- ing and the game was left unfinished...

COMBUSTION

in the human body is of the utmost importance in determining vitality. Unless combustion is active, the vital organs lose their power, the body loses flesh, skin becomes pale, and the whole system is in danger.

Scott's Emulsion

induces a healthy combustion, by supplying the blood with the prin ciple of cathon-the principle which enriches the blood, assiste in miking healthy flesh, and gives force to the vital organs. By taking Scott's Emulsion you gain the human steam that keeps the body vigorous. It nourishes when all other food is of no avail." All Chemists. Sule Agents for Hongkong and the Empire of China !
