In a paper read before the Chemical Section of the British Association, Dr Gallatly found that when he took a bandful of cotton waste that had been asked in boiled linseed oil-the excess of oil being removed by pressure-and placed it anong dry waste in which a thermometer was inserted, and keeping it at a temperature of one hundred and seventy degrees, the inercory began to rise rapidly from five to ten degrees every few minutes, and at the end of DRUGGISTS SUNDRIES. NURSERY REQUI-seventy-five minutes the thermometer AL indiouted 300 degrees Fahrenheit. this point the smoke issuing from the box revealed that the cotton was in an active state of combustion, so that on exposing it to the open air it quickly hurst into flame. Regarding oils-of animal origin, he found that lard oil produced rapid combustion is four hours, seal oil is a hundred minutes.
