Some interesting statistics aro published in the Government Gazette as to the average daily quantity of produce which finds it way into the various markets in the Colony. The Central and Western Markets de by far the largest business, the Western disposing of no lem than eleven tons of poultry per day, as against over a couple of tone for the Central. No less than from 59: to 70 tone of fruit and vegetables go into the Central Market cach day, while 23 tons are credit- ed to the Western; 7 tous 12 cwts of fish are sent to the Central, and 7 tons 7 orts to the Western. The other markote supply the wants of leas. crowded parts of the city, and in consequence less business is done in them. The daily meat supply to the whole of the markets averages 30 bullocks, 18 sheep, and 156 pigs. These figures show -the importance of the trafó carried on in these markets, and the necessity of a stringent supervision being mantained over them.
As any indication that gives further corro, beration of the complete suverance of ex- Governor Hennessy from the affairs of Hongkong will be gratefully accepted by the community, we have satisfaction in being able to announce that, if Sir John Pope Hennessy made his risit to India in the hope of having a chance of mizing in the political, financial and commercial
