This really usein volume "Treaty Ports of China and Japat"] is intended as a guide for travellers and residents in China and Japan, and as a book of reference for mercantile men generally. It contains an Bonat, historical and political, of all the open ports of these countries, together with Peking, Yede, Hongkong, and Macao. It has been carefully compiled and edited by Mr. N. B. Dennys; and the elaborate maps and plans, with which the work abounds,

We have thus given in outline some of the more prominent portions of the chapter devoted to Canton, as a specimen of the whole volume, Other chapters treating of Macao, Formosa, Ningpo, Shanghae, and the remainder the treaty ports, we can only enumerate.
