The quantity of Fruita imported decreased from 707,000 piculs to 655,000 piculs, but the value in- creased from $4.2 millions to $4.9 millions. Imports from Australia fell from 8,972 pieuls to 6,776 picule, and U.S.A. from 65,035 piculs to 49,007 picule; whilst there was an increased import from China.
Imports of unenumerated Tegetables totalled 664,000 piculs ($1.8 millions) as compared with 568,000 piculs ($1.5 millions).
Butter valued at $847,000 was imported as compared with $498,000: the chief suppliers being Australia and New Zealand.
Imports of Condiments increased from $591,000 to $1.0 million: $780,000 being imported from North China as compared with $437,000.
Imports of Eggs were valued at $2.5 millions as compared with $2.4 millions.
Imports of Dried Fruits increased from $1 6 millions to $2.3 millions, and exports from $1,8
millions to $1.8 millions.
Imports of Condensed Milk totalled $1.9 millions as compared with $2.1 millions. Imports from Canada increased from $49,000 to $107,000 whilst Holland decreased from $1.6 millions to $1.4 millions, and U.S.A. from $197,000 to $75,000.
Imports of Tea were valued at $3.1 millions as compared with $2.7 millions, and exports at $2.8 millions as compared with $2.3 millions Imports from Ceylon decreased from $142,000 to $127.000 whilst imports from China increased from $2.1 millions to $2.5 millions.
Exports of Preserved Ginger increased from $1.7 millione to $2.2 millions.
FUELS.
Imports totalled $11.0 millions as compared with $10.6 millions, and exports $396,000 as compared with $781,000.
Imports of Charcoal increased from 268,000 piculs ($515,000) to 280,000 piculs ($557,000), and Fire- wood from 2,469.000 piculs ($1.6 millions) to 2,518,000 piculs ($1.5 millions).
Imports of Anthracite Coal decreased from 80,984 tons ($774,000) to 60,000 tons ($552,000), practically all arriving from French Indo-China.
Imports of Bituminous Coal decreased in quantity but increased in value, amounting to 696,000 tons ($8,287,000) as compared with 750,000 tons ($7,631,000). There were decreased imports from India, South Africa and Japan, whilet slightly increased quantities were imported from the Netherlands East Indies and North China,
HARDWARE.
Imports totalled $3.9 millions as compared with $2.7 millions, and exports $3.1 millions as com- pared with $2.0 millions.
Imports of Cutlery and Electroplated Ware increased from $317,000 to $457,000, the United Kingdom share of this trade practically doubling
Imports of Enamelware decreased from $268,000 to $258,000 but imports from Japan increased slightly.
There was a large increase in imports of Sewing Machines from $188.000 to $913,000, mainly on Becount of shipшents from Germany. Exports to Japan totalled $662,000 as against nil.
Exports of locally-manufactured Tinu are increased from $473,000 to $156,000 mainly for the China
market.
LIQUORS (INTOXICATING).
Imports totalled $3.4 millions as compared with $2.9 millionɛ, and exporte $894,000 as compared with $700,000).
Imports of Malt Liquors increased from 419.000 gallons ($775,000) to 430,000 gallons ($971,000); 206.000 gallons being received from the United Kingdom as compared with 191,000 gallons, and 143,000 froin Japan as compared with 126,000.
Juports of Spirits (Brandy, Gin, Rum and Whisky) decreased from 95,000 gallons ($1,141,000) to 84,000 gallons ($1,822,000). Imports from the United Kingdom decreased from 67.000 gallons to 88,000 gallons.
Imports of Vines increased from 31.178 gallons ($261,000) to 35,273 gallons ($355,000), there being ncreased imports from France, Portugal. Germany and particularly Japan.
Imports of Native Liquors decreased from 266,000 gallons ($512,000; to 207,000 gallons ($508,000).
