Examination of Plans of Ships, Machinery, etc. to be
Constructed outside the Colony.
The Government cannot allow any survey during construction to be made outside the Colony but, if desired, will undertake to examine and advise upon plans showing the structural arrangements and details of ships, marine boilers, machinery boats, etc., which are to be constructed outside the Colony and intended to comply with British requirements, The fee for this service will be assessed in each case according to the work involved in the examination.
Surveys outside the Colony,
19. The foregoing fees are for surveys within the limits of the Colony and include the surveyors expenses in connection with such surveys. When, on ap- plication being made, the Government decide to allow a survey to be made outside the Colony, in addition to the usual survey fee and the Surveyor's travelling expenses, a special fee of $100 will be charged for every 24 hours or part of 21 hours during which the Surveyor is absent from the Colony. This special fee will include a subsistence allowance for the Surveyor which will be assessed and paid by the Government according to the circumstances of the case.
All fees and a deposit to cover the additional charges must be paid in advance by the applicants and an undertaking given for the payment of any balance of fees and expenses connected with the service.
Overtime Charges.
20.-(a) Whenever Surveyors are called upon to perform services out of official hours application should be made to the Chief Surveyor and an undertak- ing given to pay the overtime charges.
(6) Official hours are to be regarded as from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and overtimo is charged according to the following scale :-
On week days:—
from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.....$10 from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and & p.m. to 8 p.m. before & u,m. and after 8 p.m.
on Sundays and holidays...

(c) A service occupying less than an hour will be charged for as one hour according to the scale. For services excoeding one hour, a quarter fee will be charged for every quarter or part quarter of an hour, according to the scale, bat for a service exceeding ten hours in any one case the charge will be limited to that for ten hours. These charges cover the services of all the Surveyors engaged in the survey, except if the services of an Engineer Surveyor in addition to those of an Emigration Officer are required before un emigrant ship can be cleared, the survey made by the Engineer Surveyor will be regarded as a separate one, and overtime charges will be made in respect of both officers.
(d) If, from unforeseen circumstances, the duty cannot be commenced at the hour stated on the form of application, or cannot be completed without interrup tion, the time during which the Surveyors are kept waiting is to be charged for at balf the usual overtime rate subject to the limit of ten hours for the whole service.
(e) Time occupied in travelling between the shore and the ship is to be charged for at half the usual overtime rate,
(ƒ) As the tests of illumination of ship's sides, searchlights for ship's lifeboats and visibility of navigation lights can only be made satisfactorily after dark, therefore, necessarily out of office hours, only one-half the usual overtime rate is to be charged for such tests.
